Festival Brings LGBT Cinema to Burns Court

FabulousIFFThe Fabulous Independent Film Festival today announced its 2014 dates, with films screening at Burns Court Cinema from August 22-24. The festival will kick off with an Opening Night Party at MADE. The event, now entering its fourth year, brings the best work from Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) film festivals in the United States, Canada and Europe.

“We are different from a regular film festival,” says founder Magida Diouri, Fabulous IFF founder. “We are trying to do some special things this year.

Diouri said the festival is still in the selection process, but she expects to announce a lineup within a week or so. Tickets go on sale on July 28 at FabulousIFF.com.

She is shooting to screen seven feature-length film and seven shorts, the bulk of which will have premiered at other major festivals sometime in the last 12 to 15 months. The programs for the Miami Gay and Lesbian Film Festival, the Cannes International Film Festival,  the Inside Out LGBT festival in Toronto and other major events.

For the third consecutive year, a portion of proceeds will held fund to Harvey Milk Festival in Sarasota, Diouri said. Harvey Milk organizers, Diouri said, were essential in getting Fabulous IFF running.

Diouri previously has served as the programmer for the Sarasota Film Festival and ran a Sarasota Film Society LGBT program for years before launching the independent Fabulous IFF.
